It’s official, the Steelers are out of the running and the winter cold is blowing outside. New York City is frigid. That means it’s time to crawl up in the fetal position and cry and drown yourself in carbs. Because it’s January. You’re all about resolutions? I’m all about hibernating for the next 60 days. Ok, so yes, I am still training for the Pittsburgh Marathon in April, but that means, all the more carb loading to do!
Just because the Black and Gold won’t be making the Big Game doesn’t mean I won’t be watching. I remember even as a small child the Super Bowl was just like Christmas! I got to stay up really late and watch really cool commercials, big men tackle each other and eat myself into a food coma and fall asleep on the couch right after half time as my parents would carry me off to bed.
The good days.
Tastefully Simple Traditions
Well, we keep traditions alive in this house, and Max and I will be barricaded from the snow surrounded by delicious food. Now, I know I always say – mind your health and watch what you eat, but I’m going to be honest – winter is my downtime. It’s cold, it’s dark and the only thing in season I like is Brussels sprouts. So I say live a little – and make some delicious foods in a simpler way: Tastefully Simple has introduced the Big Game Day Collection ($85) just in time to feed the hungriest of your football fans. This collection includes ingredients for 10 recipes, including appetizers, desserts and drinks. All you have to pick up are the proteins and produce.
What’s on the Menu:
- Perfectly Potato Cheddar Soup Mix
- Garlic Parmesan Chicken Bites or Wings
- Football Truffle Cupcakes
- Buffalo Chicken Nachos
- Absolutely Almond Pound Cake Mix
- Rustic Herb Parmesan Snack Mix
- Mississippi Mudslide Mock-tails
- Salted Pretzel Roll Mix (BY FAR OUR FAVORITE THING!)
- Stuffed Buffalo Mushrooms
You can make a full spread big enough to feed your entire team with all the ingredients in the box – and beyond! But one thing we couldn’t put down were the Pretzel Rolls, hot out of the oven is probably one of the best cold-weather remedies we’ve ever tried. And yes, Maximo made them so they were MASSIVE – just like individual chunks of guaranteed sleep. Here are a couple of our favorite recipes to get you started:

We are a family of football fans, my daughter keeps track of the teams we each follow throughout the entire season. Who’s ever team makes it with the most wins gets their choice of food favorites & decor color for our Super Bowl party. this year my Giants did terrible, husbands Redskins & sons Vikings got knocked out same weekend, (thank goodness not too much smack talk), but my daughter “Mush” is still in her Cardinals still have a chance! Whatever she chooses I plan on adding the Mississippi Mudslide Mock – Tails
