I don’t know if you remember, but last year, a stranger bought my dinner on Valentine’s Day. I was traveling back from Pittsburgh, Claudio was flying back from work, and Maximo and I stopped in the middle of no where PA at Cracker Barrel to eat and take a break. It took me a few minutes to understand why everyone was staring at Maximo and I with looks of pity and compassion, until I realized, I looked like a single mom taking her son out on Valentine’s Day.
I almost wasn’t surprised when the waitress said someone had paid for our meal, but it still made me teary-eye when I read the receipt and it said:
“Enjoy the best Valentine you’ll ever have – your son.”
I still have the receipt hanging up on my office bulletin board.
