So I was one of the lucky bloggers chosen by Disney to throw a party. Yes! Disney! They picked me?? Then I thought – F*&%! I have to throw a party?? The only parties I am good at throwing involve loud music and lots of tequila.
Throwing Maximo’s 1st birthday was simple because the Queens Zoo did a lot of the work for me, so this was really going to test my creativity. THANK GOD FOR PINTEREST. Seriously – what did moms do before it? Not throw parties with matching paper plates I’ll tell you that much. My gram would’ve shooooed me right outta the house with a broom if I had brought up gluing buttons to paper cups to match Mickey Mouse. However, she could sew one mean quilt and party favors probably would’ve been customized throw pillows. Win some, lose some? Anyways – photos seems to tell a way better story sometimes, so I’ll let you enjoy:
#DisneySide: Hot Dog Mickey Mouse Parrrrtay!
The table is simply a couple table cloths and paper plates!
Party hats have buttons glued on and ears are simply circles with tabs cut out to tape on the side. (We used a small glass to make the circles).
Finger foods were served – including of course, mini hot dogs! We used Mickey Mouse cookie cutters to make fruit pops of watermelon and pineapple, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches shaped like stars and Mickey Mouse hands.
Cups were simply red dixie cups with buttons glued on. The straws with polka dots are from Target! No, really!
A HUGE thanks to our favorite local consignment and classes shop, Raising Astoria for hosting! All Astoria moms should check out this neighborhood gem if you haven’t yet!
Did I mention we made a Mickey photo booth? It’s actually really simple. Take a cardboard box and cut out the middle, use that middle to make two large circles. Cover in construction paper, and glue on two large buttons. Viola! (We also reinforced the back with duct tape to make it durable against the wild kiddies!)
Cookie decorating was courtesy of Angela, owner and founder of Making That Cake – who won Sweet Genius on the Food Network! These kids have it, sweet!
Angela also surprised all the kiddies with these delicious chocolate-covered Oreos to take home! Yum!!!!
We (attempted) to play a civil game of B-I-N-G-O. It was short lived.
The photo booth was a big hit.
Even with the adults.
Cheers to a successful party!
Thanks to the help and support of fellow NYC mom blogger Allison Cooper of ProjectMotherhoodNYC.com and Jory Lieber of TeenyTinyFoodie.com!
I was not compensated for this post, but I was given decorations and props to help throw the party. All opinions and creativity are my own – well, thanks to Pinterest!
