Growing up in Pittsburgh, we were always huge football fans. It wasn’t until Max was born and I lived in NYC that I learned what the real meaning behind “futbol” was.
This sport was HUGE. Almost bigger than Steeler Nation. And with Maximo’s family being from two large soccer countries – Uruguay and Guatemala – this sport was quickly loved in the home.
What isn’t there to love about soccer? It’s a super fun sport to watch in person, and there’s nothing better than yelling GOOOOOOOOOOOAL in unison at an Uruguayan parrillada. While it’s fun to watch at home, it really a sport best enjoyed with others.
Plus, it’s REALLY fun when you’re wearing your Suarez jersey on the streets of NYC and get high fives from random strangers.
While we love to watch the games on tv (in Spanish is even better!) and cheer on URU, it’s even better when the International Champions Cup comes to the US – AND NEW YORK!
What is the ICC?
