If you have forgotten – we live in New York City. THE CITY of ALL cities, THE one and only, the mecca, the model the best – New York City.
On any one given day, there are about 300 things to do at any given hour of the day – PER borough. Stimulation overload is an understatement. So when I say I “stumbled” upon the BEST museum ever – you should believe me. And RUN there.
We met up with our Dominican twins for brunch and an afternoon with the babes – and decided to go to the Museum of the Moving Image – right here in good ole Astoria!
$12 entrance fee (FREE on Fridays 4-8 pm!!)
I just figured it would be old pieces of films or “images” – no this is the coolest, advanced, technology driven hands-on museum ever. They even have an ENTIRE OPEN FLOOR DEDICATED TO OLD SCHOOL VIDEO GAMES. Atari? Yes. Space Invaders? Yes. Roll around in a giant metal ball and shoot asteroids? YES! and on full-wall sized projection screens!
There of course is also the greatest collection of old and antique film and movie reels, television sets and movie sets. I even spent the afternoon with Chewbacca and C3PO.
You can create your own movie sound effects, video-captured flip books, even voice over Eddie Murphy in Coming to America.
If you have an afternoon, I HIGHLY recommend you bring the little ones (or just YOURSELF even if you don’t have kids! We were playing video games all day haha) – there were more lights, images and sounds that could’ve entertained for days!!! Maximo loved all the interactive pieces – and we will definitely be bringing him again as he gets older and older and can take on the sights and sounds in different phases of his growing.
We especially enjoyed the 80s living room – complimented with actual 80s cartroons like Yogi Bear and Kung Foo Phooey. Yes!!!
Yearly memberships are only $150, so for older kiddies, they/you can come whenever your want!
They also have movie theaters for parties, screenings and private showings.
WHO KNEW IT WAS IN MY BACK YARD?
New York continues to surprise me and make me love it more and more everyday.
