There’s no need to repeat it again, but why not? 2020 is THAT year. A strange year. But alas, here we are only a few days away from 2021 and the countdown is on. But to get there – we’re going to have to go through flu season, in the cold, in NYC. The days are long my friends. So, we’re been prepping for it. While I am trying to refrain from stockpiling toilet paper and Clorox wipes every chance I see it, there are a few things we’ve invested in to make it through these dark days (foreshadowing??). Make sure to check in on us once spring peeks up again in a few months, but here’s a few things we have to get us there.
1. Happy light
SAD (seasonal affective disorder) is real, and I expect it to really take effect in January. That’s usually the month I hibernate or we go skiing every weekend to get the little bits of sunlight we can. So for those days we can’t and we’re hunkering down in darkness doing work and remote schooling, I invested in a happy light. It’s UV free and many people swear by them to get the daily dose of sunlight you need to keep spirits up and SAD away.
Where to find: I grabbed this one on Amazon for only $39.
2. Norm’s Farms ElderKids Organic Elderberry Gummies
It’s no secret that we are vitamin and mineral lovers. We take variety of them daily, but one staple we always have, for both Max and I, is elderberry. It’s been challenging to find one that he actually likes – he’s weird about liking/eating gummies, and doesn’t like the syrup. But the one he LOVES is Norm’s Farms ElderKids Organic Elderberry Gummies. I also love them because they’re grown and made right here in the USA on a small, sustainable farm in Missouri. We love supporting small biz (especially farmers since I was one!) while they support our immune systems. That’s a win win for sure.

3. Indoor Bike Holder
It’s also no secret that I fell in love with biking this summer. This hunt and find was meant to be when I found my Giant Contend AR. It was like seeing a wedding dress and knowing (not that I would know…) – it was just yes to the bike – and in a pandemic when they were extremely hard to find. It was meant to be. Since May, we’ve spent miles and miles together. And I was sad thinking I would have to wait till spring to get back on her. BUT alas, I saw some friends recommend a stable bike stand for indoors. Now, yes, get you it is sort of bulking to have your bike set up in your bedroom all winter, but being able to now do Peloton ON MY BIKE is amazing. Now, I can join my friends in classes again, and while I miss the studio, this is second best. I highly recommend it. This will definitely keep my spirits up through winter.
Where to find: I grabbed this one on Amazon for only $80.
4. New cozy sheets and slippers.
We’re all about embracing hygge this year. I even thought about purchasing a fake fireplace. Might still do it haha. But for now, we invested in the cozy of all – and get ready cause Black Friday is coming up! I felt new slippers/moccasins were in order, new flannel sheets and of course, a big, lovey blanket. We have a million blankets but really, can you ever have too many??
Where to find: Brooklinen is my favorite go-to for sheets while Land’s End is my favorite spot for cozy blankets and slippers.
5. Insulated tights.
Weirdly enough, I like the cold. My best running days are under 40 degrees but you need to dress for the weather. I live in insulated leggings this time of year. Shockingly, when I talk to friends, they don’t know these exist and freeze all winter. I love these to run in and I also wear under my snowboarding pants in the winter. Trust me, you’ll love these.
Where to find: Athleta and Lululemon are my go-to for insulated runners.
