You might say us New Yorkers are a little spoiled with all our amenities, but that’s part of living here – access to ANYTHING at ANYTIME. I refer to them as #newyorkproblems because we are spoiled. I remember landing in Barbados earlier this summer at 3 am with a pounding headache. Unfortunately no stores open till 8 am meaning no aspirin till then. I had to remind myself that life outside of New York is actually the norm, but when you’ve lived here for so long – you start to think that New York is the norm. Never the case.
Just yesterday a drunk old man sat down next to me on the subway and proceeded to blow his dirty breath all over me out of the side of his mouth. Seriously, you can’t make that shit up. Yes, I moved.
Anyways – I just became a wee bit more spoiled and I want you to be too. One of the issues all us moms have is primping because we can’t find the time to head out to the salon for a blowout or fresh manicure. If I REALLY need one, I’ll plan to try and get one during Maximo’s nap time. I walk up until he falls asleep in the stroller then rush in and pray he’ll stay asleep until my nails are dry.
PRIV – Beauty and fitness that comes to you
So it was only a matter of time before technology caught onto this and I was introduced to PRIV – the newest service in NYC to come to you. It’s completely app-based. You log in and select your service – from nails to blowout to massage – and within a few minutes, they show up at your door. Instead of having to plan an appointment far in advance, cross off a chunk of your day, find someone to watch your child, and travel to the salon, PRIV lets you get a haircut (or a myriad of other services) in the comfort of your own home.
You just enter your credit card, so there is no money transaction – just a flat fee that is deducted after your service. AND – tip is included. When you include tip, transportation time, subway or cab fees AND paying the babysitter – getting a gorgeous blowout for $50 is a great deal.
Just like you order your dinner to show up from the push of a button, so does your next manicure.
Allison and I decided to test out PRIV together during a business meeting. I must admit the app is pretty cool. We were working, stopped briefly to book the appointments, and a few minutes later we received notification that our girls were on the way.
We held our meeting while primping, and then were ready to head out for happy hour to meet some new potential clients of our own.
Allison had a mani/pedi combo. I had a manicure and blowout.
NOTICE: PRIV is currently only available in Manhattan, not the five boroughs. We will update you when they expand soon!
