Light. Bladder. Leakage. It’s like a bad word but it’s way more common than you would think among women – and not just with those who give birth. LBL is something that affects 1 in 3 women.
Many women aren’t comfortable talking about light bladder leakage, but Poise® knows that for many women LBL is part of being a women, and having little leaks doesn’t need to slow you down. I’ve openly talked about this before, because I know I am not the only one out there. In fact, it’s kind of funny to know it took until my 30s to actually “pee my pants”. But I am over it, as I am sure most of you are. And now, I just accepted to wear it as a badge of honor, because I only do it when I am really active, so that tells myself – “hey, you’re working, girl!” But, it’s not a comfortable feeling, and it’s not something you can just have stop – you’d have to stop mid-workout (and what excuse do you use in a dance class?). So to avoid it, I have actually told my trainer that I can’t do jumping jacks because “my knee is hurting” so I wouldn’t, and even skipped a 305 Fitness dance class (my favorite!) because they do a TON of jumping. Honestly, how many of the ladies taking that class pee themselves? It’s gotta be a close 50%.
Luckily, brands like Poise® have been listening to these quiet murmurs from the locker rooms and alas, have found a solution to actually prevent LBL. Sounds unbelievable right? I thought so too – but celebrity fitness enthusiast, Brooke Burke-Charvet and women’s health expert, Dr. Jessica Shepherd, OGYBN, have teamed up with Poise brand to empower women to take control of their LBL, so I decided to give the Poise® Impressa® a trial run – especially because it just happens to be National Women’s Health Week. And because well, you know I love a good challenge.
First, I wanted to make sure that I took a class that would definitely bring on the LBL – so I opted into a c9 class at the new and incredible Lifetime Fitness at Sky facilities. I popped into the lockers rooms before class and attempted the new Poise® Impressa® which you can buy as a first box with three different sizes to see which one you need that (1) feels the most comfortable and (2) actually stops the flow (because POISE® knows that women aren’t all the same!). Poise® Impressa® is also the first over-the-counter internal product designed to stop bladder leaks before they happen.
Why not, right? What do you have to lose – and let’s be honest, it’s a big step up from wearing an adult diaper (kidding!) or little pad and still standing there in class secretly yelling – YES I AM PEEING! (That might be a good Seinfeld episode…)
So class. Bring on the jumping jacks – the most feared activity of my 30s. At first I tried them about half-effort… listen I don’t want to pee unless I have to. But, it wasn’t coming…. so I went a little harder the next time, and the next…. and nothing!
Hmmmmm. Could the Poise® Impressa® really be eliminating LBL???
I had to give it another shot.
I visited my trainer the following day – he LOVES jumping jacks. This time I had no excuse or bum knee and took them on full-force. Nothing. To be honest, I was a little disappointed I couldn’t prove the Poise® Impressa® wrong!
Up next? The long run. I can usually run without LBL IF I pee before I go, but if I am out for a while, take a break, and then run… it’s guaranteed it can happen. So stay tuned to see if they live up to the runner’s challenge as well. But for now, the Poise® Impressa® is definitely a must-have addition to my gym bag. They are tiny enough and look like a tampon wrapper, so they fit even in a NYC-sized bag.
