When you look at these – I hope you see the immense pride I have in them being a NON-creative mom. I also post this to prove that yes you – YOU – can make these as well. Because, if I can get crafty – ANYONE can. Put me in the kitchen? Masterpiece. Put me in front of a craft store and a Pinterest page, you’re lucky if I come out alive, let alone happy.
My point – these Valentine’s are SO EASY to make, and seriously are the cutest. Since we can’t give out candy at school, I opted for the pencils, but you can use glow sticks, lollipops – I’ve seen it all. Before we go any further, I have to give credit where credit is due. I have seen fellow New York mom bloggers like Kristen Strange make these in the past and thought – WOW those are SO AWESOME.
Every year, Max has always been my Valentine, but this year he’s finally in Pre-K (sigh) and has friends and classmates to pass them out to, so I wanted to make something with him that he would be so excited and proud to pass out. So here’s the step-by-step:
- Scope out a fun background wall to take the photo in front of. You guys, seriously, this is the grocery store wall across the street from Maximo’s school. If you want, you can also remove the backgrounds like Kristen did (using photoshop or a phone app) – see her post here.
- Print! These are honestly #nofilter. I have no time for touchups – this went directly from my iphone 6 Plus to the wifi printer on HP printer paper (since we had some laying around from a prior project!). But you can always grab some on Amazon here.
- Etsy. I love Etsy. It will make you look cool even if you’re not. I bought these customized printables (saying “Maximo”) for $6. Plus, you’re supporting small business owners (like ME!).
- The “stick” – I got pencils on Amazon for $9.
Overall cost: $15.
Or basically the same price if you go and grab Minion Valentine’s last minute in Duane Reade.
