I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for John Hancock. I attended an event and received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.
Do you want the good news or the bad news first? Ok ok – you know how this goes:
Bad news: Americans are, on average, five years older than their actual age, due to a number of health and wellness factors. Yikes!
Good news: Unlike your actual age, your Vitality Age can change with better diet, exercise and lifestyle choices. John Hancock believes you can get #5MoreNow—by recognizing you’re in control, and choosing to improve your quality of life and peace of mind today.
Making a Change
I’m not going to be the one to preach it, but let’s be realistic – if you want to be healthier (and we can ALL use an uptick), then you have to BE around healthy options and people. If you surround yourself with smokers, you’re going to smoke. If you surround yourself with health advocates, you’re going to want to be healthier.
Think about when you go out to dinner – if everyone orders wings and fries, do you ever get the salad? No you say – eh – YOLO! So, stop putting yourself in positions to make unhealthy decisions.
You might be thinking, “here comes another company jumping on the bandwagon.” But ask yourself – is it really a bad thing that companies are taking an interest in our health and rewarding us for it?
John Hancock Insurance just announced a whole new approach to life insurance that rewards people for healthy living. Developed through an exclusive, first-ever U.S. life insurance partnership with Vitality, the global leader in integrating wellness benefits with life insurance products, the innovative, new life insurance solution provides policyholders with industry-leading financial protection, as well as opportunities to significantly save on their annual premiums and earn valuable rewards and discounts for taking steps to improve their health.

Including a free FitBit when they sign up to help track their progress! (Seriously – I’ve been using mine. Let me know when you get yours and we can be FitBit friends to see each others progress – it’s great incentive to walk those extra steps everyday!)
How Does One Get #5MoreNow
Well, funny you should ask! Here is NYC, there are just as many healthy options as there are bad ones these days, and John Hancock threw a small shindig smack in the middle of Grand Central Station to help us to locate them.
1. Juicing.
HA seriously – didn’t I JUST write a post about juicing and how much I love it (and so does Max?) Whether you make it at home or grab one on the go, cold-pressed real juice (not that fake sugary stuff) is always a great option.
2. Exercise.
Helllllo a given! If you follow me on social media, you know I am a huge fan of Soul Cycle. And waking all over the city with my son. Now that I have a FitBit, I can see just how many steps I’m taking, and how many calories I am burning. Imagine how high those numbers are after a solid afternoon outside or taking a spin class. For some reason, seeing numbers on a screen are a great motivator.
3. Downtime.
We really don’t take enough of it, and this should be your favorite part. John Hancock is TELLING you to go out there and pamper yourself a little. That means a massage, a facial, a yoga class – something to better yourself. We work ourselves to the bone and stare at computer screens way too much. Last weekend I headed to the Hamptons for a couple days of quiet and nature outside of the city. Even just 48 hours hiking, eating fresh seafood out of the sea, and soaking in the sun did wonders for my mental state.
