Usually I save movies for Apple TV and my couch, but last week we decided to beat the heat and head indoors for an icy cool afternoon in the Ice Age for a sneak peek at the latest summer blockbuster for kids. The newest film in this series, Collision Course is now in theaters and here’s why you’ll wanna grab some ice pops and watch it will the kids!
What is it about?
Scrat’s epic pursuit of the elusive acorn catapults him into the universe where he accidentally sets off a series of cosmic events that transform and threaten the Ice Age World. To save themselves, Sid, Manny, Diego, and the rest of the herd must leave their home and embark on a quest full of comedy and adventure, traveling to exotic new lands and encountering a host of colorful new characters.
Space and science is cool
You have to love movies that combine real science and things like asteroids, glaciers and volcanos to tell a story that (gasp!) could actually really happen (or could it?!). All your favorite stars are back and on course to try and stop the impending doom of a global wipeout, but just how can animals pull together to pull this off? I guess you’ll have to go and find out!
Are the facts real?
Interesting you should ask! One of the main characters, Weasel, is played by an astrophysicist. No really – Neil deGrasse Tyson just happens to work here in NYC at the American Museum of Natural History and the planetarium. So basically, yes, the facts are checked and the movie has a lot more cool science notes that you realized!
