No one likes a sore loser. Even though us Pittsburgh fans are still licking our wounds, I’m also licking the bottom of the bread bowl. Nothing can cheer up a sad, homesick yinzer like a Heluva Good! buffalo chicken dip or some bbq chip chop ham sammiches to make you feel like you’re back in “da burgh.” So that’s exactly what we did – Max and I ordered some serious food staples like Heluva Good! sour cream and Frank’s Red Hot and are drowning our Steeler sorrows in this bacon bread bowl that is the size of a football.
Any good football fan knows the Big Game is just a night to stay up late, eat a lot of food and hang with good friends. Even as young as I can remember, my parents would let me stay up late into the night on a school night just to watch a half time show and some fun commercials. Another item we always had in front of the tube? BBQ Ham sammies – on biscuits. Good lord those warm biscuits coming out of the oven slathered with ketchup and brown sugar bring back so many happy memories. No wonder we love football!
So like the Heluva Good! yinzer that I am, I am sharing with you two of my favorite Big Game recipes in time to prep for your own viewing party.
Heluva Good! Buffalo Chicken Dip Bread Bowl (with Bacon)
[yumprint-recipe id=’18’] The second necessity in a yinzer spread is chip chop ham. You’re probably saying what is the love of *** is that? It’s just Pittsburghese for very thinly sliced deli ham. You can literally order it this way in Pittsburgh grocery stores – it’s eve listed this way in the deli. Personally, I prefer ham right off the bone (and can order it that way from Fresh Direct), so we cheat a little on this, but it’s still the most delicious thing you’ll ever make.
Heluva Good! Jalapeno Cheddar Biscuit and BBQ Ham Sammiches
[yumprint-recipe id=’19’]
And of course, serve on some fun football-themed plates to add to the nostalgia. We know no ones cleaning up late night after that game and a carb loading session like this!
