Disclaimer: We had the opportunity to preview Fun Mom Dinner in advance and attend a press event to meet the cast hosted by Momentum Pictures.
You really have to love all the attention and empowering mom moments happening coast to coast these days. It seems that we’ve been going backwards – forgetting how to have fun, do anything for ourselves and that yes, we do make mistakes and it’s okay to NOT be focused on being a mom 24 hours each day. So every movie, book, playdate and #funmomdinner that happens – I am all about to shed light that yes, we are in fact still people ourselves, and we are allowed and entitled to a night off. And to have friends. And to let loose a little.
I don’t know when this perfect perception of mom literally morphed back into a photo of my great grandmother in the trenches of a cabin raising a family back on the farm decades ago. Instead, women and moms are pulling together to change this stigma, including of my favorite actresses of all time, Toni Collette.
Fun Mom Dinner – In Select Theaters and On Demand August 4
So what is Fun Mom Dinner about?
Four moms whose only common ground is their kids’ preschool class, decide to get together for a harmless “fun mom dinner.” The night begins as a disaster, but the combination of alcohol, karaoke, and a cute bartender, leads to an unforgettable night where these seemingly different women realize they have more in common than motherhood and men.
The upcoming comedy stars Toni Collette, Molly Shannon, Bridget Everett, and Katie Aselton.
Here’s a sneak peek why you should plan a night out to have a fun mom dinner with some friends, and THEN go see, Fun Mom Dinner:
There are tons of components to this movie that EVERY MOM can relate to: from trying to be perfect, to the single mom who is lonely without kids, the mom who overshares, the one who really doesn’t care for other moms… and more. It’s a great movie that highlights, it’s OKAY to go out – AND LET THE DADS WATCH THE KIDS. Best part? When they clarify that watching your own kids is NOT babysitting (ugh, that’s like nails on a chalkboard to me).
So yes, empower yourself to do something FUN – for yourself and grab some friends and have a (fun mom) dinner and a movie tonight.
