All I know is we grew up on the farm with pretty substantial moderation. We had fresh milk, eggs, fruit and veggies, but we also cooked with lard, Crisco and sugar.
It was a healthy balance – yes we ate well, not because it was a fad, but because it was our lifestyle. But we also loved to dig into and create delicious treats. When you live in the middle of no where and have three television channels and a rotary dial phone, it’s the little things that really matter – like fresh baked apple pies and Easter cookies. We weren’t worried about having six-packs, but then, being outside working all day long pretty much keeps those extra rolls away.
So now that it’s 2018, I still like to keep that balance. My inner farmer calling is strong, and baking is one of my favorite past times that I can never give up no matter how many grams of sugar are in that cookie. What I can control, however, is the type of sugar that I use.
So while we may still be baking with heavy products like butter, sugar and gluten. It’s always organic, whole-grain and REAL butter. Such as – Sugar In The Raw® Organic White.
Also remember, we aren’t eating cookies every single day – but when we are, they are baked at home and with LOVE (haha) and not just some box I grabbed at the store. So stop restricting yourself of the pleasures of life, and make a fun new cookie for Easter the kids and adults will both love – just tweak your ingredient list to the not-guilty-items.
