Ball. Bacon. Beers.
Three of my favorite things and if I can get them all in one place, you’ve hooked me for life. Especially when said place is also delicious AND kid-friendly.
Enter one of my new favorite hidden gems – BarBacon in Union Square. There are so many reasons to love this place. One – it’s convenient to get to.
Two – it’s not your average sports bar. Not only can you watch all your Sunday Steelers here, but you can also get ready for college bowl games, hockey and more. And do so with more than just frozen pizza or an oversized burger. Here’s a sneak peek at the menu.
Snacks
If you’re not ready to dive into carbs and stretchy pants, there are lots on the menu that are good for paleo and gluten-free. Start with a bacon tester – it comes with four different flavors of bacon (we had maple, pecan, pepper and jalapeno). Wanna really turn it up? Make it a bacon and beer flight (with beer AND bacon tastings).
BarBacon is known for their Kentucky Fried Bacon Bites. A must. Just try them. They’re award-winning.
Another tasty item? The Brussel sprouts. Yes, they come with huge chunks of bacon and Greek yogurt in a charred Vietnamese glaze giving it a new flavor you’ll be happy to munch on.
Meals
The lamb bacon Reuben. Top item on the menu. This lamb-shoulder is cured in-house with bacon, gruyere and a house “special sauce.” I could eat. this. every. day. Amazing.
Kids
I have a picky eater, but Max was actually really into the mac and cheese. We put the bacon crumbles on the side to start, but as he tried it, actually loved it and we ended up dumping them on anyways! They also have a pulled pork mac and cheese which is up next time we visit.
I love sliders because they’re just way easier to eat than a massive burger. And they’re also great for kids. These come with bacon as well (or not!) for tiny hands. Max gave them the thumbs up.
Drinks
Want to make it more a liquid brunch? I’ve become more grown and sexy in my “vintage” age and have progressed into more refined cocktails instead of the jager bombs and shots of Jack Daniels that graced my twenties. BarBacon has those too, but if you really want something to compliment your meal, they have a cocktail menu that I actually approve. The Midnight N’ Molasses (while sounding someone girlie) is sure to loosen you up. The Hogstorm is also good with a touch of tequila if you like a spin on mules (plus the also come with bacon).

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars. (The service was a bit slow that day and with kids, we know we like it to be a little faster, but since we weren’t in a hurry and it could be due to the server, I’m not considering it an every-time concern). Positive – the bathroom is big enough for a stroller but there no changing table.
