I still remember how much I looked forward to the used bookstore days with gram. Once a month we would pack up our books and take them into town to Amy’s Books to exchange them for credits for new books to read. Gram was an avid romance novel reader while I loved mysteries like Nancy Drew. I loved to walk down the aisles touching all the weathered covered and dog-eared pages. To me, the more worn the book was, the more exciting it must have been to read!
And just like out of a movie, we would go home and read books under the shade of a large oak tree just a short walk from the house. Or even lay on the couch with the windows wide open to blow a cool summer breeze in while I would sip gram’s iced tea.
No really. That was growing up on the farm.
And now, I am very proud to see that Maximo is inheriting my love for reading and books. Every night before bed he begs me to read a story – something I could never deprive him of. And so, in those few intimate moments before sleep we share the excitement of a story together. Lately, it’s been over and over, If You Give A Mouse A Cookie by Laura Numeroff (who I got to meet the other day AND have her sign a copy to Max – swoon). We read it so much in fact that he can basically recite it back to me and read it to me instead. So I knew when they were coming out with A CHRISTMAS COOKIE version – it would be exciting to prep for it in advance by making our own christmas cookies together!
If You Give A Mouse A Christmas Cookie – November 25 on Amazon Prime Video
This Friday Amazon will premiere the cutest holiday movie special on the block – If You Give A Mouse A Christmas Cookie. It’s an Amazon original (and I must say, I am LOVING all these new original series and shows!) and I have no doubt it will be on repeat in our home leading up to the holidays.
In the special, it’s holiday time and in Mouse’s house that means Christmas cookies (including a special one for Santa, of course!), caroling with friends…and one nearly-destroyed holiday pageant. Can Mouse and his animal friends save the show without getting utterly distracted along the way? It’s a wild ride as Mouse and his friends reinforce for young viewers the friendship and caring that’s at the heart of the holiday season. Like the books, If You Give a Mouse a Christmas Cookie special is centered on an “if… then” narrative structure that teaches cause and effect and encourages creativity among children.
This animated special takes the characters right out of the book and brings them to life. Get a sneak peek here:
AND If You Give a Mouse a Christmas Cookie also features an original song, “Christmas Cookie Song,” by Lisa Loeb, available exclusively on Amazon Music to download and stream November 25. Seriously – could they have picked a better songwriter and mom to sing this?
But now to the delicious part – the cookie recipe!
[yumprint-recipe id=’14’]We are pretty sure Mouse would approve of these – I know gram would!
This is a sponsored post by Amazon, but the cookie recipe and opinions on the book are authentic.

My kids love these cookies! I made a large batch and stored them in my trusty infinity jar which kept them fresh for a long time. I’m in love with your recipe and Infinity Jars. https://infinityjars.com/collections/screw-top-jars
