One of the best Broadway shows for kids just opened this past weekend (and is running on Saturdays and Sundays through March 8)! Can Do Duck: The Musical—a new show for kids that has one of the most uplifting and positive messages we’ve seen in awhile! (Don’t say we didn’t warn you to bring some tissues.) Here’s why you’ll want to grab a ticket to this musical playing at the Lynn Redgrave Theater at the Culture Project.
It teaches kids to believe in themselves
The motivational play (best for kids ages three to 11) teaches viewers to believe in themselves and say, “I can.” You’ll follow along with two families—one human, one duck—as they get their feel for the world by trying new things, working together as a team and loving each other despite their personal differences.
Based on the book The Can Do Duck, by Ducktor Morty, M.D., the show really knows how to reach and hold the attention of a younger audience. While there’s no bad seat in the intimate 199-seat theater, kids can grab a spot on the floor and sit right next to the stage. (This is especially great for toddlers.)
It’s interactive
Don’t be surprised if your child gets picked to try new things on stage during the show with the cast so they too can say, “I can!” Did we just see a duck do the chicken dance? Anyone (or animal) can do things when they try.
After the show, all children are invited up to learn how to swim, fly and dance with the Can Do Duck families under the spotlight.
It sends a positive message
In addition to watching a fun show, kids will leave learning a positive (and heartwarming) message about themselves and others in their lives. Even parents will find themselves singing along to catchy tunes like “You Are Loved,” while hugging and swaying to the music with their children.
