Crafting is for the brave and courageous.
While I like to claim those quality characteristics, crafting just has never fallen into my column of “strengths.” Alas, I am a mom, and thus, I try and try again. I have lots of #nailedit moments and while Max is already 7, he still beams with pride to anything homemade we craft together to show off to his school peers (while I cringe on the sidelines).
While I can milk a cow, drive a stick shift and kill, clean and cook a chicken, I still find it fascinating that people can look at the plain room or wine glass and say – this can be better, and then actually follow through.
I believe that’s why Cricut was invented. It’s not for the crafty people of the world – for those where there is a will there’s a way. It’s more for people like me – those who, in a better sense of the word, are not “crafty AF.”
You may look at the machine and just blank out or pop a Xanax (or like me, just ignore it in a box for a few months) before diving right in. But as someone who can’t design a Christmas card, I must say this creation in itself is genius. There really is nothing Cricut cannot do.
It even cuts wood? What?
But let’s take a step back – baby steps people.
It may seem simple, but sometimes simple is the most beautiful.
I wanted to jump right in and start making everyone their own customized Christmas gifts and decor, but luckily I had a Circuit pro come over to set me up, hold my hand, and show me how to start easy – with snowflakes.
Yes, snowflakes.
Listen, I get you can still cut these yourself with a piece of paper and scissors but these are PRECISE snowflakes. Plus it was fun to pick out which ones we would cut together and hang. Max turned into a crafting monster and wanted to snowflake the sh** out of the place. I made him stop here.
We did branch out a little and try for a cute Christmas tree. Once we cut these out, I thought well, we could string them together for some garland decor for the house or the tree, which then turned into our string for Christmas cards.
So simple, so pretty.
Since then I’ve watched my friends go all out from matching family pajamas to shot glasses.
Now, I’ve been paying attention when I browse the aisles of Target to see what I can doctor up. I may not be selling anything on Etsy anytime soon, but I will say I’m understanding a crafters eye.
Next up – Cricut 2.0. Stay tuned for some yinzer gear. Maybe some homemade Valentine’s for Max to use at school and pastels for Easter (but let’s get through snowflake season first).
