Today, it’s more common to hear people complain about something than post a selfie on Instagram. But Heathfirst is actually DOING something, not just talking.
On Free Ride Day, there were 25,000 Citi Bike rides doled out, and those bikers covered more than 65,000 miles!
They are also offering New Yorkers that qualify Citi Bike membership for only $5/month through the Reduced Fare Bike Share program.
Why is this amazing? According to the NYC Mobility Report, Citi Bikes are 30% faster than taking cabs in Manhattan. So you get your exercise and get to where you need to be faster. Plus, it’s good for the environment, so it’s a win all around.
This means New Yorkers who qualify (New York City Housing Authority residents and SNAP recipients) can a Citi Bike membership only $5 a month.
And with more than 800 docking stations all over the five boroughs, you can cover a lot of ground for a lot less.
I recently tested this by riding one myself from Astoria to Greenpoint (Brooklyn). It was a lot of fun, safe, easy to navigate the bike paths and there were docking stations close to where I was going.
It’s great to see a health insurance company promoting healthy lifestyles and being proactive about health. So help spread the word to encourage more active lifestyles for New Yorkers – AND/or get out there yourself! Citi Bikes are one of my favorite ways to get around the city, especially for quick trips that aren’t near subway stations. They have a basket to hold your items, so all you need is a helmet! Trust me, you don’t want to ride in NYC without one! Be safe, be active and be nice to the planet.
