Admit: I have never gotten a flu shot. Ever (in my defense I grew up on a farm – we didn’t run to doctors for things like this!).
Last winter I got the flu for the first time ever.
It is worse than anyone ever described. I won’t go into full detail because it is too much TMI, but let’s just say – there were signs it was coming. The evil was lurking and I ignored them. Again I was also in the middle of moving by myself in the dead set of winter and had to have it ALL done in a week, so I had other things to worry about than that fever and immediate rushes to the bathroom.
The moral of this story, don’t be like Stephanie.
We are only human. And while we think we can be super moms, things can happen. I was immobile for four days. As in I couldn’t even open my door, my neighbors had to key into my apartment and take Max to feed him and friends would bring me medicine from the pharmacy. Thank God for neighbors and friends.
The thing is, it was TOO LATE for flu medicines. I already had it. And at that point – you have to ride it out. NEVER RIDE IT OUT.
So, the point of my story is – be prepared. And at the first signs of flu-like symptoms, pop some Boiron Oscillococcinum. If I had been smart, I would have taken these the first “incident” I had. I even had this in my house waiting, and didn’t take them. #fail.
I also don’t take the best care of myself. I admit it. I could eat better, drink more smoothies and greens, etc. Clearly.
So here is my PSA/warning to you – do these little things to avoid the flu!
1. Eat and stock up on items that keep your immune system in tip-top shape. Best foods are things like blueberries, dark chocolate (yes!), oily fish (like salmon), broccoli, sweet potatoes, ginger, garlic and spinach. Soup anyone?
2. Stock up and have Boiron’s Oscillococcinum ® on-hand and ready for the moment you get any flu-like symptoms.
3. I am a homeopathic kind of girl, so I love and LIVE ON Doterra’s OnGuard oil during this time of year. I slather it all over myself and Max.
4. Get the flu shot. If you’re braver than me to face the needle, make an apt to get one asap. Note: Even though I don’t, Max gets the flu shot every year (against his will).
Some other fun facts about Boiron homeopathic products:
They make children’s medicines, too! You can see their full line here, including cold and cough syrup and ColdCalm Kids.
Also a BIG FAN of their Arnicare line that is good for active people like me. It helps with aches and pains. I don’t stretch enough (can I admit anymore in this article?!) and this helps at night when I have minor foot and leg pains from stiffness and soreness.
