We say this every year but, where did 2018 go? And when did Max end up starting 1st grade? Long gone are the days of strollers and baby bottles while bookbags and notebooks are taking over the house. If you’re in the same position, you’re like – Stephanie I don’t need all this intro crap – what’s good for Fall 2018. So let’s get right to the point.
I attended the annual Momtrends Back-To-School bash to get a quick scoop on what’s hot for this season. Here are a few of our faves:
1. Label everything
These have been our fave for a long time. If you have a kid at any age, and you don’t use Mabel’s Labels yet, let me enlighten you. These are amazing for so many reasons – you can tag clothes (this is LIFESAVER for Catholic school uniforms when everyone has the same thing!), book bags, and even shoes. Plus, the shoes help kids know their left from their right.

2. Lunchtime snack packs ftw
Seriously nothing gives me more nightmares come September than the words “school lunches.” In private school, we have to send this every. single. day. And with a child who eats, say, five things, you really have to put your creativity hat on at 6am. Lucky for me, he’s been as big of a Stonyfield fan as I have over the years, so breakfast almost always consists of a Stonyfield yogurt tube on the way to the bus. But they’ve taken it a step further now – and have made lunch easy for me too. These new snack packs are perfect for tossing in a lunch box. You can grab strawberry/graham cracker or chocolate/pretzel. And ahem, they’re organic. Yes.
3. Notebooks are cool again
If you saw, Lisa Frank made a comeback recently and now binders, folders and separators are cool again. I remember as a kid this was my favorite thing to shop for – all the matching pieces to make my new cool trapper savage as f. And now, kids are still taking it pretty seriously – which I find pretty cool because hey, we haven’t fully eclipsed into digital – yet. So Avery has some v fun prints this season (which mom might like for herself, too!) including Emojis, Trolls and
4. Lice is real people
Lice happens, there is no joking about it. Luckily we’ve been able to avoid it even with a few instances last year in our school, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t prepared for the bomb drop. We have Vamouse Lice treatment kits at home, just in case. So spritz on some rosemary spray every morning before you walk out the door, and grab one of these kits off Amazon so when you get the call – you aren’t scrambling to find one last minute.
5. They make eco-printers now
Funny, but we’ve actually lived without a printer for a few years. It’s not that strange – it’s 2018 and most things are digital and the little things I can just print in the office in the city. That is until you get a school-aged child. Then you’re printing left and right – field trip release forms, doctor forms, homework, research… the list goes on. Luckily this new cartridge-free Expression ET-2750 EcoTank printer from Epson has TWO YEARS worth of ink inside. This EcoTank printer will save you around $1500, so it’s a damn good investment.

Donate for a cause
Many kids – almost 16 million!- live in poverty and don’t get the chance to go back to school with all these fancy new things, or any new things at all. You can donate $25 here to the Kids in Need foundation that will provide one child with a backpack and all the supplies needed for them to have a successful school year.
