There is a big shift happening if you haven’t already noticed. And for every bad thing you read in the news, you should note that there is still good.
Stonyfield Organic, which started as a small organic farming school in New Hampshire 35 years go, has blossomed into a well-known and trusted consumer brand bringing quality organic products into American homes.
But that’s not all they’re doing. Gary Hirshberg is back – and heading up the company as Chief Organic Optimist and he’s on a mission. While all companies need to make a profit, he sees the bigger picture – health. Stonyfield has always been committed to organic farming techniques (and supporting the local farmers!) and providing products that not only taste delicious and fresh but are good for you.
As Gary himself said last week at our breakfast, you can never eat too much yogurt.
Because Stonyfield Organic Kids yogurts are certified organic and Non- GMO Project verified, that means each cup is always made without the use of toxic persistent pesticides, artificial hormones, antibiotics and GMOs. Organic certification matters because just calling something natural isn’t a guarantee. You can be sure that when you see the USDA Organic label, the food it’s attached to was made by farmers who don’t plant GMO crops OR give their animals GMO feed.
But let’s talk about something you DON’T know.
Make Earth Cool Again
Gary is leading the team at Stonyfield on a serious mission to take on Capitol Hill. He is one of the most passionate people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting who wants to save the earth – for our children.
“Although we’ve never stopped working for healthy people and a healthy planet, everyone at Stonyfield agrees that the planet needs stronger voices now more than ever,” explained Hirshberg. “Of course, just the daily act of supporting over 1,400 organic family farmers stewarding millions of chemical-free acres and helping tens of millions to enjoy delicious organic foods is meaningful, but in today’s policy and political landscape, all of that is not enough. It doesn’t matter to our children how much organic yogurt we produce if their air, soil and water are seeing increased chemical contamination and climate change is causing massive damage to our communities and to agriculture.”
How Can You Make A Difference? Vote.
You can visit Stonyfield for tools and resources on how to get out the vote for this year’s midterm elections, with the goal of encouraging consumers to vote for candidates who will help protect the environment. There is info to connect you to online educational resources about the environmental issues at stake – and where the candidates stand on them – this November. Stonyfield is also encouraging consumers to pledge to vote for candidates who will protect the environment and challenge recent EPA decisions such as the announcement this week to dissolve the Unit that tests the effects of chemicals exposure on children.
I don’t know about you – but if a company is that passionate about what’s going to happen to our children’s future, they surely care about the yogurt you’re eating every day.
Stonyfield Organic New and Improved – No Added Sugar
Speaking of their products, even though they’re already organic and contain no GMOS, they CAN get better – and are. Stonyfield recently completed a sugar reduction across its Stonyfield Organic Kids portfolio, featuring between 25% – 40% less sugar than the leading kids’ yogurt. AND – ANNNNNND – they’re going to be rolling out NO ADDED SUGAR yogurt products as soon as April to shelves. Because with natural fruits and quality products, you don’t need it.
How Can Kids Eat Better?
Getting kids to eat healthily can be a struggle (that I also know personally), but adding in little things like organic yogurt to their diets can help them start to appreciate better foods. Dr. Tanya Altman, pediatrician and author of What to Feed Your Baby has lots of tips for introducing these staples into your families diet – at any age (not just babies!).
