New Year’s is almost upon us and yet another year, we’ll be setting resolutions. Since 2014 seemed to be a rough year full of negativity and heartache worldwide, I am going to try something new this year – making a resolution to help others instead of resolutions I know I won’t keep like not eating chocolate. Don’t think I’m getting totally sentimental on you – but really – little things can go a long ways, and part of 2015 will be being a positive role model for Max. I want him to see how doing little things for people can really make a difference in their lives.
As Anne Frank said, “No one ever became poor from giving.”
I just want to be more aware of the things around me instead of also absorbed in my phone – such as helping a mom carry her stroller up the stairs, or giving $1 to the performers on subway, giving a compliment where it is needed instead of shaming moms, etc – you get it. It’s an extension of my #virutalvillage campaign.
What is #DeedADay?
This is both a fashion statement and a cause to encourage everyone to do a good deed a day. Mary Fisher, artist, author and HIV/AIDS activist, designed this simple but stunning bracelet strung with 100 beads by HIV positive and economically fragile women in Uganda, Zambia, Rwanda, South Africa, India, Indonesia, and Haiti. These bracelets remind you to do a good deed. Every time you go out of your way to perform a good deed, you move the bracelet’s rubber ring closer to the 100th bead.
By resolving to do one good deed a day in 2015, you are perpetuating a sustainable, social-good model that will continue to pay it forward to the artists who create these bracelets and anyone whose life you touch on your path to fulfilling your daily deed. The 100 Good Deeds Bracelets are available for purchase at 100GoodDeeds.org in nineteen colors and two sizes, medium/large or petite/small. One hundred percent of proceeds from sales are re-invested in the 100 Good Deeds program.
